How to Choose a Portable Coating Thickness Instrument?

In commercial service or industrial production, we need to have a portable coating thickness instrument to inspect various metal coatings or the paint surface of used cars, so how should we choose an excellent coating thickness instrument?

Ⅰ. How to choose a coating thickness instrument?

1. Clear the purpose

At present, the digital thickness gauge meter on the market is mainly divided into three types: the magnetic thickness measuring gauge, the eddy current thickness measuring gauge, and the ultrasonic thickness measuring gauge. A thickness-measuring gauge can also be divided into single-use (iron base or aluminium base) and dual-use (aluminium iron integration).

If the paint, powder coating, plastic, porcelain, chrome, copper, zinc, etc. are used on steel or iron, and the thickness of the measurement object is about 0~1500um, you can choose the iron-based coating thickness instrument.

If it is used to detect paint, plastic, porcelain, etc. coated on non-magnetic metal substrates such as aluminium, copper, brass, or stainless steel, and the thickness of the measured object is about 0~1250um, you can choose the aluminium-based coating thickness instrument produced by measuring instruments supplier.

Of course, you can also purchase a dual-purpose coating thickness instrument, that is, an iron-based and aluminium-based one.

The ultrasonic thickness measuring gauge is special, generally used in objects with a thickness of 0.65 to 500mm, and can detect metals, plastics, ceramics, glass, etc.

2. Accuracy

In terms of accuracy of the portable thickness measuring gauge, as long as the product meets the national production standards, it is not bad and it is the excellent product in the industry if reaching the zero-point calibration ± (1+3%H) and the two-point calibration ±[(1%~3%H)] H+1.5.

In terms of accuracy, the magnetic coating thickness gauge is larger than the thickness measuring gauge using eddy current thickness measurement, and the first two are much larger than the ultrasonic thickness measuring gauge. After all, the unit of measurement is one um micron and mm millimeter.

3. Portability

Portability is mainly selected from the aspects of compactness and battery durability. Like the Mikrometry portable coating thickness instrument, it is small in size and can be used with 1.5v*3 batteries. It will be relatively convenient and worry-free to carry and use.

4. Easy to operate

For the novice who has just used the coating thickness instrument, how to hold the measurement has a great influence on the measurement data. After all, the thickness of the measurement object is as small as um and micron level, so an excellent coating thickness instrument must be excellent in manual design.

Ⅱ. Management and sharing of the measurement data of the coating thickness instrument

We often need to perform statistical analysis on the measured data or share it with customers, so an excellent coating thickness instrument needs to solve these problems. For example, it can connect to computer software for statistical analysis.

A portable coating thickness instrument that must meet the current needs in portability, accuracy, ease of operation, and data management aspects can be called an excellent coating thickness instrument.
